1. Our fundamental privacy promise

koonk is designed from the ground up as an anti-social network for exactly two people. There are no public feeds, no followers, no public profiles, and no advertisement networks. Nothing you write, snap, or listen to in koonk leaves your private world unless you explicitly tap to export a card yourself.

2. Information we collect & how we use it

To provide a synchronized experience for you and your partner, we collect minimal operational information:

• Account & pairing information: your name, login authentication credentials, and unique pairing invite tokens linking your account with your partner's account.
• Partner responses & game progress: answers to daily questions, quiz duels, streak counts, and garden growth progress to calculate wavelength matches and sync your screens.
• Ephemeral moments & tease photos: photos uploaded to the Tease feature. Photos are encrypted in transit and at rest and are programmed to expire at midnight.
• Audio & music dedications: track selections and notes sent via the Jukebox feature. Audio previews are streamed directly from official catalog APIs.
• Essential device telemetry: anonymized app performance indicators, crash diagnostics, and push notification tokens (via Firebase Analytics & Firebase Cloud Messaging) solely to ensure app stability and deliver real-time partner notifications.

3. Built-in privacy systems & double-blind protections

We engineered koonk with cryptographically enforced double-blind systems to protect emotional safety and intimacy:

• Double-blind question reveal: daily question answers remain encrypted and hidden until both partners have submitted their response for the day.
• Zero-risk "After Dark" secret matching: when exploring intimate desires in After Dark, mutual matches are revealed only when both partners select "YES". If either partner passes, no notification is ever sent and your choice remains 100% secret forever.
• Strict share fail-safe: sensitive response tiers (DEEP, BOLD, INTIMATE) are programmatically blocked from public image export. Only SWEET and PLAYFUL tiers permit external card generation.
• Midnight ephemeral auto-wipe: Tease photos automatically seal and expire at midnight local time.

4. Mobile device permissions

koonk requests minimal native device permissions only when you explicitly interact with corresponding features:

• Camera & photo library: to capture or upload an ephemeral moment or avatar photo for your partner.
• Audio / microphone: to enable real-time music sync or voice reactions.
• Push notifications: to alert you when your partner answers the daily question or sends a song.
• Local secure storage: we use encrypted local key-value storage (via expo-secure-store / AsyncStorage) to safely store your session tokens on your device.

5. Data security & storage

All data transmitted between the koonk app and our backend servers is encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS 1.3 encryption. Backend databases enforce strict row-level security ensuring that data associated with a couple ID can only be accessed by the two authenticated partners in that couple.

6. Account deletion & right to be forgotten

You have total control over your data. You may request account deletion at any time within the app settings or by contacting our team. Account deletion permanently wipes your profile, unlinks your couple pairing, and permanently purges all historical responses and stored media from our active servers within 30 days.
